Good: well - it is what it is. the description is accurate. it's not a luxury hotel - but we didn't expect that. the room was okay. the bed was very comfortable and everything was clean. a few small things might need repair, e.g. a shelf in the bathroom that only has the brackets left, but the location in little italy is very good and it's also close to the highway. the staff at check-in was incredibly friendly and helpful.
Bad: apart from small repairs that would be necessary in the room, the corridor to the rooms on the first floor has a smell that takes some getting used to. i would also prefer it if the stairs could be used for more than just emergencies.

Good: Close location to Little Italy and the airport.
Bad: The hotel smelled bad, it was very run down. The sound from other rooms is like theres no walls. Theres also a large homeless population behind the hotel.

1The worst hotel I ever stayed in
Good: Hotel is at a good location, close to Little Italy. The airport is nearby and as an aviation enthusiast I enjoyed watching airplanes through my room window. Front office staff are lovely and they are definitely the biggest asset of the hotel.
Bad: I don't consider myself a demanding customer and I believe every hotel should provide a clean and safe environment for their guests. Any other amenities for me are just a plus. The room I got upon check in was infested with cockroaches, but the lady working at the front desk was kind enough to change it and apologized for the problem. Unfortunately, the second room was also not free of insect infestation (although not cockroaches this time), and, in addition, the fire alarm was disabled in the room. Obviously this indicates that the hotel failed in their core business during my stay and I did not feel either safe, nor relaxed. Finally, upon checkout out I was told I cannot get an invoice/receipt/bill for my stay because the payment was done via Booking and I should ask for it from them. After contacting Booking they confirmed that the hotel should issue an invoice as the party which actually provided the service. As my trip was for business purposes, this situation prevents me from reimbursing the costs of my stay. Unfortunately, up until now, Booking was also not able to resolve this problem with the hotel. Having all these issues in mind I definitely won't be coming back during my future trips to San Diego.
